When life feels heavy, therapy can offer space to pause
There are times in life when holding everything together quietly becomes exhausting.
Maybe you’re feeling anxious, low, or stuck in patterns that no longer feel helpful. Maybe you’re living with chronic illness or disability and trying to adjust to a body that no longer behaves in predictable ways. Maybe you’re neurodivergent and tired of masking, overthinking, or feeling misunderstood. Or perhaps you’ve experienced relational trauma or narcissistic abuse and are still carrying the impact of those experiences.
Whatever has brought you here, therapy offers a space where you don’t have to manage everything alone. It can be a place to slow down, reflect, and begin to understand the patterns, emotions, and experiences that have shaped you.

Emma Collens BSc, Dip, MBACP (Accred)
Experienced Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor & EMDR Practitioner
I’m Emma Collens, a BACP accredited psychotherapist, EMDR practitioner and clinical supervisor with over 15 years’ experience supporting people through anxiety, trauma, burnout, chronic illness, neurodivergence and major life transitions.
My approach is relational and trauma-informed, shaped by both professional training and lived experience of chronic illness and neurodivergence. I offer a calm, thoughtful space where you don’t have to explain everything or hold it all together alone.
My approach
My work is relational and trauma informed, grounded in psychological theory while always recognising the practical realities of your life and circumstances.
In our work together I pay attention to:
-
patterns in relationship
-
attachment dynamics
-
how the nervous system responds to stress
-
the impact of past experiences on the present
At the same time, therapy is always connected to what is happening in your life right now.
Sessions are collaborative and paced in a way that feels manageable. There is no pressure to share more than you feel ready to.
Areas I commonly support
I have over 15 years of experience supporting adults, children, and vulnerable individuals in various settings. Here are some of the areas I specialise in:
How I can help
I offer several ways of working together depending on the kind of support you’re looking for.
Psychotherapy
(Talking Therapy)
Psychotherapy offers a space to explore the experiences, patterns and emotions that may be affecting your wellbeing.
People often come for support with anxiety, trauma, burnout, relational difficulties, chronic illness, neurodivergence, grief or life transitions.
Together we work at a pace that feels manageable, helping you understand what has been happening in your life and develop ways to move forward.

Coaching
I also offer specialist coaching for neurodivergent professionals, people living with chronic illness or disability, and those navigating burnout or work-related pressure.
Coaching focuses on practical change, helping you develop clarity, structure and ways of working that feel sustainable for your brain, body and circumstances.
This work is forward-focused and goal-oriented, supporting you to move forward with greater confidence and direction.

EMDR
Therapy
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is an evidence-based therapy recommended by NICE for the treatment of post traumatic stress disorder.
It can be particularly helpful when difficult experiences continue to feel emotionally overwhelming, even when you understand them logically. EMDR helps the brain process distressing memories so they become less intense and easier to live with.
£125 per session
90 minutes
Sessions are available online and in Twickenham
Clinical Supervision
I offer clinical supervision for qualified counsellors and trainee therapists.
Supervision provides a reflective space to think about client work, ethical considerations, risk and the relational dynamics that arise within therapy.
My supervision style is collaborative, thoughtful and supportive of professional development.

What it's like to work with me
Working together is a collaborative process shaped around your needs, pace and circumstances.
Some sessions may involve exploring experiences from the past, while others focus on what is happening in your life right now. The aim is to create a space where you feel able to reflect openly and begin to understand the patterns, emotions and experiences that may be affecting you.
Over time, many people find themselves:
-
gaining clarity about patterns in relationships
-
understanding how earlier experiences influence the present
-
responding differently to anxiety or overwhelm
-
developing greater self-compassion
-
building confidence and self-trust
There is no pressure to move faster than feels comfortable. The work develops gradually, and the therapeutic relationship itself becomes an important part of the process.

Ready to take the next step?
Starting therapy can feel like a big decision, but it doesn’t have to be complicated.
Here’s how the process works:
1
Book a consultation
Send me a message to book an initial consultation. This can be a telephone or video call of up to 30 minutes (£25), or a full 60-minute assessment session (£60).
We'll talk through what’s brought you to therapy, your current difficulties, and what you’re hoping for from the work, and to explore whether therapy with me feels like the right fit.
2
Get to know each other
If it feels like a good fit, we’ll arrange a regular time for your sessions, either on the phone, online or in-person. I’ll also send you my client agreement to review and answer any questions you might have.
3
Begin your therapy journey
We’ll work together in a structured, supportive way that matches your pace and goals. We’ll also build in regular reviews to reflect on progress, check that the work still feels helpful, and adjust our focus as needed.

My values
I believe therapy should be inclusive, accessible, and affirming. I’m committed to providing a safe and accessible space for people of all backgrounds, identities, and abilities, including LGBTQIA+ clients, neurodivergent individuals, and those living with disability or chronic illness.
