Emma C Counselling & Psychotherapy
Maybe you’re feeling anxious, low or stuck in patterns that no longer serve you. Maybe you’re living with chronic illness or disability, trying to balance your emotional needs with a body or mind that doesn’t always cooperate. Maybe you’re neurodivergent - tired of masking, explaining, or trying to make things work in a world that doesn’t always make space for you
And maybe, you’re just tired of pretending you’re okay when you’re not..
Whatever brings you here - you’re allowed to want more. More peace. More clarity. More understanding. More space just to be
I work with people who are often expected to hold it all together, even when things feel like they’re quietly falling apart - people living with anxiety, depression, burnout, or emotional exhaustion…

Emma Collens BSc, Dip, MBACP (Accred)
Experienced Counsellor, Clinical Supervisor & EMDR Practitioner
I’m a fully qualified integrative counsellor, EMDR practitioner, and clinical supervisor. My background includes a BSc (Hons) in Psychology, a CPCAB Diploma in Therapeutic Counselling, and a CPCAB Level 6 in Clinical Supervision. I’m also an accredited member of the British Association for Counselling & Psychotherapy (BACP), and I work in line with their ethical and professional standards.
With over 15 years’ experience supporting adults and vulnerable individuals, I have provided support in emotional support services, residential care, and counselling charities. These roles have given me the privilege of walking alongside people through a wide range of mental health challenges and life transitions.
I’m committed to ongoing learning, regularly completing CPD training to ensure my practice remains informed, relevant, and responsive to each person I work with. I am also recognised as a provider for several health insurance companies — please feel free to get in touch if you’d like to check whether your sessions could be covered.
My approach
My approach is rooted in both professional expertise and lived experience, with a deep understanding of how physical health, trauma, and emotional wellbeing are closely connected. I offer a calm, compassionate space where you can feel safe, heard, and respected.
Therapy with me is gentle, collaborative, and tailored to your unique needs. I blend evidence-based approaches with a relational, person-centred style—supporting your emotional wellbeing and personal growth at a pace that feels right for you.
I believe that meaningful change begins with a strong, trusting therapeutic relationship. You’ll be met with warmth, empathy, and genuine care in a confidential environment where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and experiences—without pressure or judgment.
Whether you’re feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply seeking support as you navigate life’s challenges, I’m here to help. Together, we can work towards greater clarity, resilience, and confidence—so you can move forward with a deeper sense of understanding and ease.
How I can help you
I have over 15 years of experience supporting adults, children, and vulnerable individuals in various settings. Here are some of the areas I specialise in:

Anxiety & Depression
Low mood, anxious thoughts, or emotional numbness can quietly take over, leaving you feeling lost or disconnected. In therapy, I offer a space to slow down, understand what’s happening beneath the surface, and gently work through the layers. Together, we’ll find ways to ease the overwhelm and help you feel more present, empowered, and emotionally supported.
Chronic Illness & Disability
Living with a long-term health condition or adapting to a life-changing diagnosis can bring waves of grief, fear, frustration, and a loss of identity. As someone with lived experience, I understand how complex and isolating it can feel. I offer a space where your reality is not only heard and understood—but genuinely held—with compassion, insight, and support as you navigate what this means for you.
Narcissistic Abuse Recovery
Narcissistic abuse can leave lasting scars—gaslighting, manipulation, and broken boundaries often linger long after the relationship ends. In therapy, we’ll process these impacts, rebuild your self-trust, and strengthen your boundaries. My aim is to help you reclaim your voice, reconnect with your values, and rediscover a grounded, confident sense of self.
Grief & Loss
Grief doesn’t follow rules—it rises and falls, circles back, and often stays longer than we expect. You might be grieving a person, a relationship, or a life you imagined. In therapy, you’ll find a safe space to hold that pain, honour what has been lost, and slowly begin to find your footing again. Together, we’ll work gently, at your own pace, to help you carry your grief while also creating space for healing and hope.
Neurodivergence
I work in a neurodivergent-affirming way, which means I won’t pathologise your experience or force you into boxes that don’t fit. Whether you’re navigating burnout, masking, sensory overwhelm, or identity questions, therapy is a space where your way of being is valid and understood. Together, we’ll build a relationship that respects your pace, your needs, and your truth.
Low Self-Esteem & Self-Worth
Struggling with self-doubt or harsh self-criticism can feel overwhelming, but it doesn’t have to define you. In therapy, we’ll explore where these patterns come from, understand how they’ve shaped the way you see yourself, and begin to gently challenge them. Together, we’ll work on strengthening your self-compassion and building a more empowered, confident sense of self that feels authentic and sustainable.
I now offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) therapy — a structured, evidence-based method designed to help you process difficult experiences and release the emotional weight they carry.
Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (such as eye movements or tapping) to activate the brain’s natural ability to heal. This helps reduce overwhelm, reprocess painful memories, and bring relief from symptoms like anxiety, low self-worth, or flashbacks.
EMDR can be especially supportive for:
-
Trauma and PTSD
-
Anxiety and panic attacks
-
Grief and loss
-
Childhood or relational trauma
-
Emotional neglect
-
Low self-esteem and shame
-
Impact of narcissistic or emotional abuse
You don’t need to have experienced a single major trauma to benefit. Many people find EMDR helpful for shifting long-standing patterns and easing the weight of past experiences.
If you would like to find out more about this approach, book a consultation or fill out the contact form below where we can arrange a suitable time to discuss your needs and find out if EMDR would be the right approach for you
